Pick, pick, pick,
They picked her to the bone
On her way and on her way home
Their taunts follow her even now

Down The Pub

Standing at the bar
Smoking ash tray and cigar
Double whisky glass in hand
Isn’t his life grand

Laughing out loud
Drinking pints with the crowd
Smutty jokes, football results
Going home filled to the gills

Talking in a huddle
Pints on table in a muddle
Who’s round next, let us guess
Not mine I got the last

Working behind the bar
Drinking up time not far
One last round, one last pint
Wishing all a good night

Going home at last
Time to clear up the glass
Put out lights, lock the door
Back tomorrow for some more

My Space ship

I built myself a spaceship
Out of paper and glue.
I filled the tank with orange juice
And flew to the moon.

I stopped there for my dinner
Then continued on to Mars.
Twice around Saturn's rings
Refuelling at the stars.

Passing through the Milky Way
Now I’m going home.
Crash landing in the garden
I broke dads gnome.

Pink Candles

Snuggled beneath my blankets
I stare at your photo by candle light
Not thinking of anything
Just looking at your face

As the candles burn down
The flames lesson and the light fades
As the light dies away so does your face
And dark shadows dance on my memories

Slowly the candle burns out
And your image disappears
But even now in the dark room
I can still see your eyes
Smiling at me

Angel Fields

I came across a field
But no crops did I find there
No seedling wheat
No harvest to reap
When autumn draws near

Neither is she an orchard
She has no fruit to bear
No rosy apples, no juicy pear
And although ringed with trees
The crow is the only bird
That I did stir

A Family Curse

A curse upon a family
was but scorn
Upon the mother
and first child born

To die in battle
was the child’s destiny

But now he is free,

Long White Socks

Long white socks and royal blue ribbons
Pinafore dresses and old Mr Gibbons
School books, homework, holidays
These are things from my old school days.

Maypole dancing and nature trails
School bags,teachers and ponytails
Geography,English, nursery rhymes
These are things from my school times.

Trips to the zoo on hot summer days
Christmas party’s and Christmas plays
Ice-cream, jelly and a bag of crisps
These are the things that I shall miss

Angelic Host Protecting

A beam of light harsh and cold dashed across the street below
With no regard for property up the house wall it climbed
It sat on the window ledge waiting for the owner to open the curtains
So it could seep through the glass and play shadows in the room beyond
In the dimly lit room pictures and furniture
Were out lined along with other flotsam and jetsam
Slanting off a far wall the light created a pattern betwixt lace and cloth
Hung where this ray of streetlight thumped the wall was a photograph
It was a large black and white photo of a man
A man with dark questioning eyes that stared at you intensely
A smile that melted hearts everywhere
And a clean-shaven jaw, proclaiming a scar of character.
The shaft of light soft and warm playing in the room
Created a glow around the picture like an angelic host
So while the sleeper rested a man-made heavenly light
Protected the purposely-placed picture of her heart.

Maiden Dark

His love was strong
for a maiden dark
But the battle field of hate
stole his heart

So off to war he rode,
never to return
Leaving his loved one
for ever to yearn

On the eleventh hour
of the eleventh day
A message came
and in it did say

His love for the battle
in his heart
Was greater than the love
for his maiden dark

So in the end he left
with his greatest love
And ascended to
the almighty heaven above.

Teddy Blue

I have this little teddy bear
That’s a dirty shade of blue
And I’ve and named him Michael
After my favourite person you

Each night he comes to bed with me
Until the alarm bell sounds
Then I sling him across the room
And he lands with a thud on the ground

Searching for the light switch
His tiny body I usually find
But I give him lots of love and kiss’s
And some how he doesn’t mind

I don’t mean to be cruel to my teddy bear
That’s a funny shade of blue
But he can’t expect miracles
Because I did name him after you
